Alaska LLC Cost (2026): $250 Articles, a Business License, and a Biennial Report
Alaska has one of the higher LLC formation fees in the country at $250, and it adds something most states do not: a separate state business license that nearly every business must hold. The ongoing report, on the other hand, comes only every two years. Put together, Alaska’s real cost is higher than its biennial report fee suggests.

The $250 Articles of Organization
An Alaska LLC is formed by filing Articles of Organization with the Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing, part of the Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development. The fee is $250, and online filing is the fastest route.
The Articles name the LLC, its registered agent with a physical Alaska address, its purpose, and its management structure.

Form Your LLC with Northwest ($39) →Lowest 3-year cost we found: Northwest $289 vs Bizee $298 vs ZenBusiness $497 (service fees; state fees extra). Northwest also puts its address on your public filings instead of yours where the state allows.
The Business License Most Guides Leave Out
Forming the LLC creates the entity. It does not authorize it to do business. For that, Alaska requires a state business license, issued by the same division, for almost every type of business. The fee is $50 for one year or $100 for two years. A few industries, such as certain fisheries and insurance, are handled separately.
Licenses expire on December 31. One issued before October 1 runs to the end of that year; one issued on or after October 1 runs to the end of the following year. Some cities and boroughs also require their own license or sales tax registration.
The $100 Biennial Report
Alaska LLCs file a report every two years instead of every year. The fee is $100 for a domestic LLC. The report is due January 2 of the filing year, and the filing year follows the year the LLC was formed: LLCs formed in an even-numbered year file in even years, and those formed in an odd year file in odd years. An LLC formed in 2026 files its first biennial report in January 2028.
The report confirms addresses, the registered agent, and members with an ownership stake of 5 percent or more. Changing the registered agent requires a separate filing.
February 1 and the $37.50 Late Penalty
Although the report is due January 2, the state accepts it without penalty through February 1. After that, a domestic LLC pays a $37.50 late penalty on top of the $100 fee. An LLC that stays delinquent can be administratively dissolved after notice, and a dissolved LLC loses the ability to maintain lawsuits in Alaska courts until it is reinstated.
Alaska 3-Year Cost
| Scenario | Year 1 | Year 2 | Year 3 | 3-Year Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Northwest Registered Agent | $339 ($250 + $50 license + $39, RA free) | $175 ($50 license + $125 RA) | $275 ($100 biennial + $50 license + $125 RA) | $789 |
| ZenBusiness (Starter) | $399 ($250 + $50 + $0 + $99 RA) | $249 ($50 + $199 RA) | $349 ($100 + $50 + $199 RA) | $997 |
| DIY, self as registered agent | $300 ($250 Articles + $50 business license) | $50 (business license) | $150 ($100 biennial report + $50 license) | $500 |
A DIY Alaska LLC formed in 2026 costs $500 over three years once the business license is included, with the first biennial report falling in year three. The $289 extra with Northwest Registered Agent is registered agent service after year one. Buying the two-year business license for $100 does not change the total, only the timing.

When an Alaska LLC may not be worth it yet: $300 in year one is a meaningful outlay for a side project. If you have no revenue or liability exposure yet, waiting is reasonable. If you do business in Alaska, you need the business license regardless of whether you form an LLC.
